Small SWF movie showing the animation of the wing frame I'm trying to improve for myself.
Basic frame idea is from instructables.com, I added the string.
Pull on that and they open, so no need for the silly armbands and flapping your arms to open and close them (which looks absolutely retarded). The string can be hooked to a belt or something to keep them open and you'll still have your hands all for yourself.

Next step is a full size model, probably in balsa wood because that's the cheapest and easiest to work with I can think of :p

Did I mention I'm a wing addict? I LOVE wings.
imakewings.co.uk and danielle-hurley.com/costume_AOD.html are my 2 favs, sadly I can't afford the gorgeous animatronic wings and I lack the technical background to make them, so I'll settle for this version... FOR NOW! hehehehe

I see mention of the wings auto-closing... how exactly would that work?

They don't auto close, I have to do that manually.

Well, that's why you would put some rings on the end of the strings you use to pull them open and make some hooks on your belt or something, or put the rings around your fingers so you can hold them open :)

What did you use for the joints? Looks like hinge brackets

On this tiny wing frame I just used some really small nuts and bolts, since it was just a test to see if it would actually work.
I poked some holes in the cardboard and forced them through, that's all.

I never made a pair of 'human-sized' wings with this design, so I couldn't say what to use.
There's a tutorial for this type of wings on instructables.com though, just look for articulated wings and it should pop up.

so yours wings are a pull system to open them? do they close auto when you let go of the string?

For this tiny prototype, yes. I ended up using an entirely different frame, so I never got around to making this one full scale.

ah i see what did you use one the final one then? because i am trying to make a set of moving wings that the strap is on your upper arm and it opens and closes with your arm lifting up or being lowered

For the kind of frame you are talking about, there's a great tutorial on the instructables website, search for articulated wings.
I used a frame that you can open and it stays that way. Actually, it was custom made for me, I didn't make it myself.
You can see it in my gallery Wings, on the image WIP Articulated wings 2.

Is gewoon hoe ik ben, ik moet en zal het dan zelf uitzoeken :p

En dat armbandje is niet het enige wat er op staat, ook de roos, de kettingen, en ik heb nog meer waarvan ik helaas de foto's kwijt ben.
Thanks ;)
